My Story
We have all heard the saying, “It’s not where you start, but where you finish.” Well, that is certainly true when it comes to me. My journey started with me not being given a name at birth. In fact, it wasn’t until I was a young adult that I realized my birth certificate had never been updated, up until then, it stated “Infant Male” as my name. You can only imagine how insignificant and unvalued that made me feel. As a young child, I suffered from severe asthma, and one day during one of my many visits to the hospital, I overheard the doctor tell my grandmother there was a good chance I would die before I reached the age of 16. I remember many days at the hospital being on the nebulizer breathing machine and having to get painful shots in my back several times a week. It was during that time I decided I would live beyond the age of 16 and it would be my mission to live the life I wanted to live, despite asthma, and push past any obstacles that life had in store for me.
Even though growing up, I was lacking in the areas of home stability, financial opportunities, and was educationally disadvantaged, I really had a deep-rooted feeling to help others. As I got older, I realized that my childhood circumstances weren’t unique. Through community involvement and my career path, I learned that for a person to change their situation, they must change the way they think and take action to overcome life challenges.
My career has given me opportunities to work with young adults going through some of the same challenges I encountered and even some with physical and mental disabilities. It has given me great satisfaction to be able to teach and empower others to change their mindset and move forward in life. I have since advanced my skillset by earning several college degrees in Psychology and many certifications that assist with applying behavioral techniques to help others develop personally and professionally regardless of any barriers.
Through the use of my combined life, work experience, and educational background, I’ve been able to successfully help people move forward and achieve a more fulfilling life. Armed with that goal in mind, I founded The Wright Coaching Group who will provide the tools to help individuals transform their aspirations into reality.
